Opening 21 November 2026

Our little green corner of life

VerdeVida Family Farm is a family farm in Manilva, on the Costa del Sol: a greenhouse café, hens, a farm shop and plenty of green to slow down in.

Abrimos muy pronto en Manilva. · Welcome to Finca Verdevida 🌿

About us

A family farm, grown by a family

Finca Verdevida is run by a Danish/German family in Manilva in southern Spain. We are building it with our own hands: a greenhouse, a hen house, a café, a farm shop and an orchard of fig, pomegranate, orange and avocado trees.

Choose a name to meet the family. Select it again or press Escape to close.

We started with a simple idea: fresh vegetables, good bread, coffee, nature, animals and family time – a little hygge in the Andalusian sun. On 1 November we held a Halloween day: over 30 families dropped by and our farm products sold out. Thank you!

For the long run we want to learn about water-saving, nature-friendly vegetable growing, and to stock our farm shop with good local products from producers around us.

What to expect

A visit to VerdeVida

Seven things you can look forward to when we open. Everything is still growing, so you will see a garden in the making rather than a full harvest. That is part of the fun: come back and watch it grow with us.

The power of green

Why green makes us feel good

Why does green make us feel calm? Our brains are wired to love green. For thousands of years, lush green nature meant survival: food, water, fertile soil and shelter. When we see green, our nervous system quietly gets the message: you're safe here. That is the feeling we are growing at VerdeVida.

1

Green means safe 🌿

The human eye can tell apart more shades of green than of any other colour. Seeing green quietly tells the body to relax.

2

Plants lower stress 🌱

Studies show that simply looking at plants changes our body in measurable ways: cortisol, the stress hormone, drops; heart rate steadies and blood pressure falls; brainwaves shift towards deep relaxation (more alpha waves) and frustration fades.

3

Green rests your eyes 👁️

Green sits right in the middle of the visible light spectrum (around 520–560 nm), so your eye barely has to work to focus on it. A welcome break from grey concrete, harsh office lights and screens.

4

Forest bathing 🌳

In Japan, "shinrin-yoku" (forest bathing) has been promoted since the 1980s as part of preventive healthcare against stress: no hiking, no goals, just walking slowly through green nature. A quiet moment among the plants of our greenhouse does the trick too.

"A garden may not solve every problem in life, but it can teach you patience, provide food, and give you something to look forward to every morning."

How we grow

Our greenhouse is the heart of the farm: a plastic tunnel greenhouse full of young plants, with the café right inside it.

  • In the beds and pots: lettuce, tomatoes, basil, beans, squash, dill, cucumbers and peas, planted out from early October 2026.
  • Hydroponic towers: since 31 October 2026 our new hydroponic system is running: white, orange and green growing towers on a wooden base, with the water reservoir in the tunnel. We check the pump, water level, pH and EC regularly.
  • Smart watering: 12 soil-moisture sensors in the beds and temperature/humidity sensors in the greenhouse zones help us water at the right time. We are finishing our drip-irrigation system and organising the beds by plant type.
  • Mediterranean climate: mild winters on the Costa del Sol let us grow greens through the cooler months.

Everything is still growing, so we can't promise a full harvest at opening.
